These steps reflect our commitment to running a responsible, inclusive venue that is safe for patrons and respectful to the local community. |
Public safety |
Promoting the Licensing Objective: Public Safety To ensure the highest level of public safety at the proposed African restaurant and bar in Swinton, we will implement a robust range of measures designed to protect all patrons, staff, and visitors: Risk Assessments: Comprehensive risk assessments will be carried out regularly, covering fire safety, occupancy levels, crowd control, and specific event-related risks such as live performances. Capacity Limits: We will operate within a clearly defined maximum occupancy level, based on fire safety guidelines and a professional fire risk assessment. Fire Safety and Emergency Planning: The premises will be equipped with smoke detectors, fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and clearly marked escape routes. All staff will be trained in fire safety procedures and emergency evacuation. First Aid: A designated first aid area will be available on-site, and key staff will hold valid first aid certificates. A first aid kit will be maintained and regularly checked. Staff Training: All staff, including security personnel, will receive training on health and safety procedures, recognising hazards, handling incidents, and supporting vulnerable patrons. Security Presence: When required, SIA-licensed door supervisors will be employed to monitor capacity, behaviour, and ensure orderly entry and exit, especially during live events and busy periods. Promoting the Licensing Objective: Prevention of Public Nuisance To support the prevention of public nuisance, we will implement a series of robust measures designed to minimise noise, disturbance, and any adverse impact on the surrounding area. Sound Management: We will install appropriate sound insulation within the premises to contain music and prevent sound leakage. All live and recorded music will be kept within agreed volume limits, and a limiter will be used where necessary. Doors and windows will remain closed during performances, except for access and egress. Outdoor Areas: Any outdoor area (e.g. smoking zone) will be clearly defined and managed. We will ensure that patrons using outdoor spaces are monitored by staff to avoid excessive noise, particularly during the evening and night-time hours. Hours of Operation: We will agree reasonable terminal hours for live music and late-night refreshment, in line with the local areas character. We will avoid activity that could generate disturbance during unsociable hours. Customer Dispersal: A clear dispersal policy will be implemented to ensure customers leave the premises in a quiet and orderly manner. Signage will be placed at exits requesting patrons to respect neighbours and keep noise to a minimum. Staff Training and Management: Staff will be trained to deal swiftly with any noise-related complaints and to manage the behaviour of customers, particularly when leaving the premises. These steps reflect our commitment to being a responsible operator and a good neighbour, ensuring our venue enhances the local area without causing disruption. |
