The prevention of crime and disorder |
At Cup and Crumb, we are committed to upholding the licensing objective of preventing crime and disorder. Our coffee shop is a community-focused, family friendly venue, and any sale of alcohol will be carefully managed in line with best practices. To support this objective, we will implement the following measures: Staff training: All staff involved in the sale of alcohol will be fully trained in the Licensing Act 2003, including how to handle refusals and identify signs of intoxication or anti-social behaviour. Challenge 25: We will adopt a strict Challenge 25 policy, requiring valid ID (passport, driving licence, or PASS-accredited ID) for anyone who looks under 25. CCTV: We have CCTV covering both inside and the entrance to the premises. Footage will be retained for a minimum of 28 days and made available to authorities upon request. Incident log: We will maintain an incident log for any refusals, disturbances, or interactions related to alcohol, which can be reviewed by licensing officers or police. No vertical drinking: Alcohol will only be served to seated customers alongside food or as part of a table service experience, reducing the likelihood of public nuisance or anti-social behaviour. Community awareness: We maintain a good relationship with our local community and will continue to take all steps necessary to ensure our premises do not contribute to local disorder. We aim to create a safe, welcoming environment where alcohol is offered in a responsible and controlled way that enhances the customer experience without encouraging excessive consumption. |
Public safety |
Public safety is at the heart of our operation. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all customers, staff, and visitors, and we will take all necessary steps to ensure the premises remain low-risk and compliant with all health and safety regulations. To support the public safety objective, we will: Conduct regular risk assessments of the premises to identify and address any hazards, particularly those relating to the sale and consumption of alcohol. Ensure clear emergency exits are maintained and unobstructed at all times, with appropriate signage and lighting in place. Provide appropriate fire safety equipment, including regularly serviced fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. Maintain good hygiene standards, in line with local environmental health guidelines, including safe food and drink preparation areas. Train all staff in health and safety procedures, including what to do in case of an emergency, first aid protocols, and how to manage difficult or intoxicated customers safely and responsibly. Avoid overcrowding by managing capacity and ensuring seating arrangements promote a calm, controlled atmosphere. Monitor alcohol consumption to prevent overconsumption that could lead to accidents or safety risks. We are a small, community-centred coffee shop where alcohol will be served as a complement to food and within a responsible, controlled setting. The safety and wellbeing of everyone on site will always be a top priority. |
The prevention of public nuisance |
Cup and Crumb is a welcoming, neighbourhood coffee shop with a strong community ethos. We are committed to operating in a way that respects our neighbours and ensures we do not cause any public nuisance as a result of selling alcohol. To uphold this licensing objective, we will take the following measures: Limited hours for alcohol sales: Alcohol will only be sold during our regular opening hours, which are daytime and early evening only. We do not intend to operate late at night, reducing the risk of noise or disruption. No off-sales: Alcohol will only be served for consumption on the premises. We will not sell sealed containers for takeaway, minimising the risk of public drinking or street-related disturbances. No amplified music or entertainment: We do not host live music, DJ sets, or other entertainment that could cause noise disturbance to neighbouring properties. Respectful customer management: Staff will be trained to monitor customer behaviour and ensure that guests leave the premises quietly and respectfully, particularly during early morning or evening hours. Signage: Clear signage will be displayed asking customers to be considerate to our neighbours when entering or leaving the premises. Waste and cleanliness: Rubbish and recycling will be managed discreetly and stored securely to avoid littering, unpleasant smells, or attraction of vermin. Collections will be scheduled at reasonable hours. As a responsible local business, we are committed to ensuring our alcohol offering adds to the customer experience without impacting the peace or quality of life of local residents. |
The protection of children from harm |
We are a family-friendly venue and take our responsibility to protect children from harm very seriously. While alcohol will form a small part of our overall offer, it will be served and managed in a way that ensures the safety and wellbeing of young people at all times. To meet this licensing objective, we will implement the following measures: Challenge 25 policy: We will enforce a strict Challenge 25 policy for all alcohol sales. Anyone who appears under 25 will be asked to provide valid photo ID (passport, driving licence or PASS-accredited card). Staff training: All staff will be trained to recognise and appropriately handle situations involving underage customers, including refusal procedures and how to deal with attempts to buy alcohol on behalf of minors (proxy sales). Supervised environment: Children and young people will only be allowed on the premises when accompanied by a responsible adult. Alcohol will only be served at tables, alongside food or as part of a sit-down service. No irresponsible promotions: We will not run promotions that encourage excessive drinking or appeal to children or young people. Alcohol display control: Any alcohol on display will be kept behind the counter or out of easy reach of children. Our aim is to create a safe, inclusive environment for all customers, and our approach to alcohol sales will always prioritise the protection of children and young people. |
