The Rack and Barrel Sports and Social Club

Live music would consist of a band or solo artist, they may have amplified music depending on the band.

Recorded music will mainly be from the TVs or Jukebox and be mostly background music, we may on occasion employ the services of a DJ, but this would really only happen on a weekend or special occasion.

Some of our members compete in ballroom dancing competitions and may wish to put on a performance for other members, or use the space for practice.

New Year’s Eve

We will operate a CCTV system which will not only record images(inside and outside), it will be available for live viewing by the bar staff and management from the bar area as stated in our constitution.

Staff and committee members will receive training in conflict resolution, and the responsible supply of alcohol, as well as training to spot the misuse of drugs.

The club already has a ZERO tolerance to the use of, or supply of drugs, not only on the premises, but also in the wider community, we will extend this policy into our licensed area, We will use SIA licensed door staff for any large events, or for any time we assess as being high risk. We will use visible signage with the club's rules displayed. We are also a members only club, so any member, or their guest who behaves in a way which breaches any of our rules or policies, or any of the 4 licensing objectives will be asked to leave and have their membership reviewed and revoked.

We will also be making an application to join the local pub-watch group, so we can keep track of any individuals in the area who may be out causing crime and disorder, while these people wouldn't directly affect us unless they were a member, it would give the opportunity to watch out for them causing trouble with members who could be leaving the premises as they pass.

We have a very strict entry policy, as a members only club, only members and a limited number of guests are permitted to enter the premises, all members are vetted before membership is granted, and members are required to sign in their guests, in a written guest register, which we keep along with a written incident reporting log which will be made available to the police as required.

We will prevent overcrowding by sticking to a maximum capacity number which is yet to be calculated, but it will be calculated before we open and all staff and management will be required to ensure that the number is not exceeded.

There will be regular testing and maintenance of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and fire alarms. Emergency exits will be clearly displayed and escape routes will be displayed for the staff and members, detailing any special requirements for wheelchair users. There will be a daily inspection of all escape routes to ensure these are not obstructed. All new members will receive an induction to the club where they will be shown approved escape routes. Staff and management will receive training in the safe use of fire fighting equipment as required.

We have an accident reporting procedure which is reviewed as required, all accidents are investigated and if possible a procedure is implemented to prevent any reoccurrence. There will always be well stocked first aid equipment on the premises and staff will be instructed in the correct use of this equipment.

Other areas such as staff only areas and toilets will be clearly displayed, to prevent any confusion to our members and their guests in the event of an evacuation. All electrical equipment will be regularly inspected and if required tested to ensure it is safe.

A detailed fire risk assessment will be carried out on a regular basis.

Doors and windows will be kept closed at any time there could be a risk of noise escaping outside, such as times of regulated activities, all club members will be instructed on the manner in which they and their guests will be expected to enter and leave the premises, with clear signage at exits.

The use of any outdoor areas which could cause a noise nuisance will cease at 20.00. Bottle bins will not be emptied between the hours of 19.30 and 10.00. Bins will be provided at exits and staff will do litter picks outside at the end of each shift. Trade waste removal contracts will be put in place, and the storage bins will be kept away from public areas. Outdoor security lighting will be angled down to prevent shining into any neighbouring properties. Dispersal procedures will be implemented to safely transition members out of a club while minimising noise, people congregating, and neighborhood disruption. We will use a wind-down period which uses phased music reduction, an increase in lighting, strict glass-collection, and active staff direction to deter large, simultaneous mass exits.

We will operate a strict challenge 25 policy, and all members no matter what their age is, or appears to be, will be required to provide ID to obtain membership of the club. The only ID that will be accepted is a photocard driving licence, passport, or a PASS hologram card which has been checked on the PASS checking system.

Anyone under the age of 18, or appears to be under 25 and can not meet the challenge 25 criteria will not be permitted to enter the direct bar area, or any area we deem to be inappropriate for children, such as anywhere with age appropriate entertainment/gambling machines. Staff will be trained to spot proxy purchasing.

All staff will receive documented training on the 2003 licensing act objectives, with refreshers every six months. We will have an appointed club committee member for safeguarding, who will ensure all policies documented in our club constitution regarding contact and reporting are followed.

We will keep written logs of all refusals due incorrect ID, No ID or underage. Anyone under the age of 16 must be supervised by an appropriate adult, anyone under the age of 18 must leave the premises by 20.30.
