Salford’s Parks are an invaluable educational resource for schools, the ranger team provides led education session on the following sites:
Just half a mile north of Walkden town centre, this 50 hectare site was reclaimed from its industrial past as a result of a local community campaign. There is strong continuing community involvement in the park.
The visitor centre houses toilets and a classroom with space for one class. The park was declared a local nature reserve in 2004.
Located two miles north of Swinton town centre, this park was also reclaimed from its industrial past and is approximately 60 hectares in size. The visitor centre houses an information centre with small gift shop and toilets.
Located in the centre of Worsley village and accessed from Beesley Green this Local Nature Reserve provides a mature woodland setting with areas of open water. This site does not have toilet facilities however arrangements can often be made to use facilities at the Beesley Green Community Centre. The site is best visited between spring and early autumn. Some tracks include uneven ground and steps.
Recently renovated, Peel Park provides a formal park setting for outdoor education.
The cost for ranger led outdoor education visits is £75 for Salford school and £100 for all other schools. Self led sessions are free of charge. Visits can accommodate a class of up to 30 children for 2 hours.
