Report a hygiene concern in a food premises

Hygiene concerns relate to specific conditions you saw in the premises and includes staff handling practices, pest infestations and waste disposal arrangements.

Common hygiene concerns include:

  • Dirty conditions
  • Evidence of pests (rats, mice, cockroaches)
  • Poor food handling practices
  • Build up of rubbish

In cases where your food hygiene complaint is not a risk to public health or safety, you may be able to resolve it by contacting the owner of the food business yourself and discussing your concerns with them directly. They may not be aware of the issue and are prepared to carry out their own internal investigation.

If your concern relates to a specific food item, please see theĀ how to make a food complaint page.
