Publication Salford Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations

The Publication Salford Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations document (part two of our local plan) was published on 31 July 2026. The eight week representations period for the publication plan closed on Friday 25 September 2026 and the council is currently processing the representations received.

What happens next

In November 2026, approval will be sought from Full Council to submit the publication plan and supporting documents to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. Subject to Full Council approval, the publication plan, supporting documents, all representations received to the publication plan, and a summary of the main issues raised in those representations will be submitted to the Secretary of State before the statutory deadline of 31 December 2026.

The plan will then be examined by a Planning Inspector appointed by the government. This process is likely to include public hearings through which the inspector will assess whether the plan has been prepared in accordance with legal and procedural requirements and whether it is sound. Those who have made representations may request to participate in the hearings or may be invited to attend by the Inspector.

Timescales for the remaining stages in the preparation of the plan are set out in our Local Development Scheme (Adobe PDF format, 175kb) and also shown below:

  • By 31 December 2026: Submission to Secretary of State

  • 2027: Examination in public

  • By 31 December 2027: Adoption
