Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, the First World War ended.

Since then, 11 November (or Armistice Day) has been enshrined in the memories of the nation as a day to pause and remember those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

The Royal British Legion has always supported the traditional Remembrance Sunday services and the customary two minute silence on that day.

As the national custodian of remembrance, the Legion also believes that when 11 November falls on a day other than Sunday, remembrance should be brought into the everyday life of the nation on those days as well. The revival of support for observance of this demonstrates that, despite the passing of the years and the declining number of veterans, the nation still feels strongly about remembrance.

Remembrance in Salford

Sunday 9 November 2025

Salford Crescent

• Time: Parade forms up at 10.10am on A6 (Outside Old Pint Pot Pub) with the flow of traffic.
• Parade leaves: 10.25am
• Service and wreath laying: 10.45am at Cenotaph, Albert Bentley Place, The Crescent

Swinton

• Time: Parade forms up at 10am at Victoria Park, Manchester Road, Swinton
• Parade leaves: 10.15am
• Service and wreath laying: 10.40am at Cenotaph, Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road

Eccles

• Time: Parade Forms up at 10.30am at the car park at the back of Eccles Town Hall
• Parade leaves: 10.40am
• Service and wreath laying: 10.50am at Cenotaph, Church Street, Eccles

Walkden and Worsley

• Time: Parade forms up at 9.15am at the British Legion, Wilfred Road, Walkden
• Parade leaves: 9.30am
• Church service: 10am at St Paul’s CE, Manchester Road, Walkden
• Wreath laying: 10.50am at Cenotaph, Parr Fold Park, Walkden Road, Walkden

Irlam and Cadishead

• Time: Parade forms up at 10.20am on Station Road (outside Irlam and Cadishead Academy)
• Parade leaves: 10.30am
• Service and wreath laying: 10.50am at Cenotaph, Princes Park, Liverpool Road, Irlam

Little Hulton

• Time: Church Service: starts at 10.30am at St Paul’s Church, Peel Lane, Little Hulton
• Wreath laying: 11am at Cenotaph, St Paul’s Church, Peel Lane, Little Hulton

Tuesday 11 November 2025

Armistice Day Service 

• Time: Gather at Swinton Cenotaph for 10.50am, Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road
• Service: Armistice Day Service and silence at 11am
