Salford Quays 2030

Salford Quays is one of Europe’s most successful water regeneration projects, the birth place of MediaCityUK and home to thousands of residents. After decades of historic regeneration, Salford Quays is currently embarking on its next stage of development with MediaCityUK set to double in size over the next decade and plans afoot for thousands more homes.

We want to ensure that the Salford Quays of the future is the best it can be, and we have therefore worked in partnership with local communities and stakeholders to deliver Salford Quays 2030. This is the blueprint of a combined vision for the area that preserves what is working, improves what isn’t, encourages innovation and ultimately sets out a guide to ensure that the Quays is a place that works for everyone.

To inform it, we undertook a range of interviews and wider consultation with residents, businesses and a mix of public and private sector stakeholders with a vested interest in the Quays’ future. We received a total of 1,318 contributions to our online consultation and over 2,200 unique visitors to the website.

This vision will be guided by five key principles that will help make Salford Quays unique and valued:

  1. A place that puts people at the centre – We will create a lively and vibrant town centre at the heart of the waterfront with a focus on activity and providing lots for residents and visitors to do.
  2. A place that works for everyone – The Quays will manage the different needs of everyone who lives, works and visits – with three different kinds of neighbourhood: Living, live-working and leisure.
  3. A place where creativity brings people together – The Quays will continue to be one of North West’s premier culture neighbourhoods where art, film, music and comedy are easily accessible.
  4. A place that’s dedicated to wellbeing – The Quays will continue to prioritise health and be an active community where people can take part in a variety of sports and exercise with public spaces prioritising people over traffic.
  5. A place that celebrates its past – We will celebrate the Quays’ renowned history and open up access to resources, stories and archive in a way that has not been achieved so far.

The vision document was formally launched at The Lowry Theatre on Tuesday 15 March 2022 and can be viewed below.
