The Department for Education have approved the opening of Acorn Academy. The new school, which has been set up by Kings Academy Trust, is expected to open in Salford in September 2024.
The free school joins 36 other alternative provision and special free schools announced to open. The school will be a 50 place secondary school for children with autistic spectrum conditions and complex social and emotional mental health.
CEO Mrs Nicholson, who has spearheaded the Acorn Academy project team, said:
“We are very excited to be involved in this project. It is a crucial step forward for Salford in providing a range of special school provision for our most disadvantaged pupils. We want to ensure we create a centre of excellence and a school that is going to be crucial in delivering support and high quality education to children and families.”

These new schools will offer some of our most vulnerable young people, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, the opportunity to access a high quality education that is tailored to their needs.
