Do you know any unsung heroes whose praises you'd like to sing? Do you know any groups within your community who contribute to the city but don't get the recognition they deserve?
People of any age can now be nominated, as long as they've made an outstanding contribution to the city of Salford. The contribution could be through services to the arts, industry, commerce, the community, entertainment, sport, education or to the welfare of others, either nationally, regionally or at city level.
Get nominating people now, so they can follow in the footsteps of one of Salford's famous sons, Russell Watson, a previous Citizen Award winner.
Please note that you are not able to nominate yourself, a family member or a group that you are part of.
What are the award categories?
The awards are split into three categories:
- Adults
- Children
- Community groups
Awards are chosen from the three categories several times a year.

How do the awards work?
You can nominate people or groups for one of the awards. The Ceremonial Mayor and Deputy Ceremonial Mayor will read through the nominations and make a decision. You will be contacted by the Ceremonial Mayor’s office to advise if your nomination has been successful or not. If successful, you will be invited into the Mayor’s Parlour with the winner for afternoon tea, where the winner will pick up their award and certificate.
Examples of achievements to nominate:
- Children who have done particularly well in relation to their abilities
- A school pupil who has achieved a major improvement in their work, attendance, behaviour, etc
- A social worker who has gone beyond the call of duty to help someone
- Someone who plays an important role in their community
- A teacher who has inspired their pupils to achieve a great success
- An athlete, swimmer, footballer, etc, who has achieved great things
- A team of people who have achieved something for their community

- David Hill (Adults) - In recognition of his outstanding and consistent fundraising for local causes as well as his invaluable support and contribution towards the pensioners parties at Eccles Town Hall.
- Rekha Senapati (Adults) - In recognition of her outstanding commitment to volunteering and unwavering support for those with terminal and life threatening illnesses, as well as encouraging female empowerment and promoting ethnic communities over the past 25 years and beyond.
- David Fell (Adults) - In recognition of his outstanding commitment to volunteering and unwavering support for numerous organisations across Salford over the past 25 years and beyond.
- Geoff and Jackie Hamilton (Adults) - In recognition of their exceptional fundraising, generous volunteering, and lasting contributions to the Tindall Allotment Group, the Allotment Federation, and Macmillan’s charity garden.
- Eccles Cakes WI (Community Group) - In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the local community, particularly for uniting residents of all ages in creating the poppy display to commemorate Remembrance Sunday 2025.
- Lesley and Thomas Lever MBE (Adults) - In recognition of their outstanding work in the community and their unwavering commitment to Lower Kersal Young People and Community Group and Kersal Allotments.
- Julie Ward and Rebecca Waters (Adults) - In recognition of their unwavering dedication and commitment to the air cadets of Salford. For inspiring and supporting the young people of the city, and the city itself.
- Alan Bent (Adults) – In recognition of his unwavering dedication and commitment to Eccles Rugby Football Club and particularly its youth teams. For being an inspiration and encouraging so many.
- Pets as Therapy Team (Community Group) - In recognition of the time spent volunteering, making a huge difference to countless patients, family and staff members at Salford Royal Hospital. You are an asset and a blessing to our city.
- Sheila Jones (Adult) – In recognition of her dedication to supporting Salford throughout her career, making an immeasurable difference to the city and its people.
- Dennis Baldwin (Adult) - In recognition of his work in suicide prevention within the community. He continues to inspire others in the fight against suicide. Dennis’s dedication to helping others make him a truly inspirational figure in the city of Salford.
- Elaine Brettell (Adult) - In recognition of her long-standing dedication, passion, hard work and generosity of time given to the NHS and voluntary services.
