Equality impact assessments (EIA) are a way of finding out how what the council does will affect different parts of the community.
This includes thinking about disability, age, race, gender (including gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity and marriage and civil partnership), religion and/or belief, sexual identity, tackling socio-economic inequality and community cohesion.
These were previously referred to as ‘Community Impact Assessments’ in Salford.
We must do equality impact assessments by law. However, this is about more than meeting a legal obligation. By placing impact assessments at the heart of everything we do, the benefits are far-reaching and will ultimately lead to the public receiving better, more improved services.
