Nine voted among best in Britain

Seven Salford parks and two cemeteries have been voted amongst the best greenspaces in Britain in the annual Green Flag awards.

Agecroft Cemetery, Blackleach Country Park, Boothsbank Park, Clifton Country Park, Parr Fold Park, Peel Green Cemetery, Peel Park, Salford, Victoria Park and Winton Park have all kept the prestigious award.

Entrance to Boothsbank Park - a path leads to a wooden hut where people are gathered. Tennis courts are in the distance and greenery is all around.
Councillor Barbara Bentham, lead member for environment, neighbourhoods, sports and leisure praised the efforts of the many volunteers who support council staff in maintaining and improving the parks and green spaces.

“Parks and green spaces have to meet very high standards to win this prestigious award, so it is a great accomplishment to maintain Green Flag status for another year. I’d like to congratulate and thank everyone behind this achievement because our parks and green spaces are so important for people and wildlife.”

Judges assess all areas against strict criteria. The spaces are rated on being welcoming, clean, healthy, safe and secure and how well they involve the local community.

Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag status for each site.

The Green Flag scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under license from the government.
