New children’s play area set to open in Swinton

A brand new play area will open next month on Campbell Road, with climbing frames, slides, play castles, roundabouts, an aerial runway, an activity trail, a tyre swing and traditional swings.

With an emphasis on accessibility, the new footpaths and safety surfaces will be fully accessible for wheelchair users, prams and buggies.

The play area is part of the planning agreement for the Bellway Homes development and has been fully funded by Bellway through a section 106 agreement. This commitment, which is about giving something back to the community, ensures local children have a safe and well-equipped place to play.

On the edge of Swinton Greenway, a recently upgraded 7km off-road path that runs from Monton to Swinton and one of the city’s key cycling and walking routes, it will be easy to get to, without having to rely on a car.

Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods and Community Safety said “This will be a great new facility for young children in the local area and I’m looking forward to seeing it in use. It’s fantastic to have another addition to our collection of parks and play areas across the city.”

Councillor Jim Cammell, Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services and ward councillor said “I’m really pleased to see this new space for children to enjoy. It’s important for young children to stay active and get plenty of fresh air and this new play area has a whole range of equipment to keep them busy. I’m sure it will be well used by local children and those who come via the Swinton Greenway.”

The play area is due to open in April, once the flooring has been completed.
