Transport and plant management is an extremely diverse and heavily legislated industry. Constant changing technology means the Vehicle Management Services staff are always required to develop their skills and knowledge. VMS has a critical role in the delivery of most services within Salford City Council, for example, keeping vehicles mobile 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
24 hours: Monday to Thursday from 6.30am to 10.00pm. Friday from 6:30am to 9:30pm
Emergency hours: outside normal working hours.
VMS also has a team of blacksmiths that are responsible for carrying out repairs and maintenance to the cities 65 play areas, together with the fabrication of ornate gates and fencing and almost anything connected to steel and metal work.
VMS's horticultural fitters are responsible for the maintenance of grass mowing equipment and plant machinery. This includes tractors, large tractor drawn mowers, ride-on mowing equipment, pedestrian mowers, hand held powered equipment, dumper trucks, mini excavators and vehicles.
