We’re bringing everyone together to make Salford a Child Friendly City.
This means making Salford a great place for children and young people to grow up and feel safe, cared for, heard and have quality opportunities to learn, work and play.
We started our journey in November 2024 when children and young people joined Salford’s City Mayor and leaders from the council, NHS, schools, the University of Salford, housing providers, voluntary and community groups, businesses, the police, faith groups, Salford Community Leisure, the RHS, Salford Reds, Salford FC and others at an event to agree the ambition for Child Friendly City in Salford and to commit to actions.
There’s already lots of great services, projects and facilities across the city for children and young people, such as the Salford Youth Zone, Family Hubs, the Dolly Parton Imagination library, refurbished play areas and an active Youth Council. Child Friendly City is building on these, and is the next step towards making Salford an even better city to grow up in.
We've been asking Salford’s children and young people what they want to see - what would make a difference to their lives, and what changes and improvements could we make? So far, over 1,500 children and young people have given their views and ideas.
