Course description:

The course will support those new to the role of SENCO in gaining an overview of their statutory duties involved in relation to changes in legislation such as the Children and Families Bill 2014 and the Equality Act 2010.

The course will support those new to the role in identifying children at the earliest stage and planning to meet their needs using a variety of tools.

Outcomes:

  • To be aware of some of the commonly encountered special educational needs and explore practical strategies for support
  • To know when, why and how to seek external specialist support
  • To explore the role of the SENCO and understand their responsibilities
  • To understand the importance of partnership with parents
  • To understand the importance of a graduated approach
  • To consider the importance of early identification of individual children’s barriers to learning and development
