Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA)

What is a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment?

Under the 2006 Childcare Act, all local authorities must secure sufficient childcare, so far as is reasonably practicable, for working parents and parents who are training to take up employment.

The Childcare Sufficiency Assessment gives information on childcare available in Salford and looks at:

  • Quality of childcare in Salford – what grade has Ofsted given to the childcare provider, is the childcare setting safe, welcoming and does it offer good play and learning opportunities for your child?
  • How affordable is childcare in Salford and what help is there with childcare costs.
  • Availability of childcare – are there enough places to meet working families needs?
  • Is the childcare accessible – are the childcare places in the right areas and are there opening hours right for your working needs?

The Starting Life Well Family Information Service (FIS) is in regular contact with parents and carers, childcare providers and other agencies and monitors the balance of supply and demand for childcare in Salford.
