Following consultation on the Revised Draft Local Plan in January 2019, a decision was made to narrow the scope of the document to focus on development management policies and designations, with the exclusion of site allocations and proposals for the overall scale and distribution of development. The title of the document was amended to 'Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations' to reflect this.
The reason for the change to the scope of the plan was that it was not possible to progress the elements relating to the scale and distribution of development in Salford and individual site allocations until Places for Everyone is adopted. Due to delays in producing a joint plan (including previous work on the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework), it was decided that rather than delay the Salford Local Plan, it would be preferable to narrow its scope so that those elements relating to development management policies and designations can be adopted much more quickly.
The primary purposes of the Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations are to:
The other elements originally intended for inclusion in the Local Plan, such as the scale and distribution of development and site allocations, will instead be progressed through a separate document, Salford Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations, and work will start on the production of this document once Places for Everyone is further progressed.
Consultation on the post-submission modifications finished on 11 July 2022. The Planning Inspector examining the plan will consider the comments made on the Main Modifications. He will then finalise the examination report and issue this to the city council. Providing that the Planning Inspector concludes that the plan can be adopted the city council will then be able to adopt the SLP:DMP. This will be a decision for Full Council. The estimated date for adoption is Autumn 2022.
