Traffic regulation order: Armitage Avenue, Cleggs Lane, A6 Manchester Road East and West

Salford City Council proposes to make the following order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. 

City of Salford (Cleggs Lane and Armitage Avenue) (Prohibition of Waiting and Amendment) Order 2026

The effect of the Order will be to introduce the following:

No waiting at any time:

Armitage Avenue 

  • north west side, from the south westerly kerbline of Manchester Road West for 60m south westerly
  • south west side, from the south westerly kerbline of Manchester Road East for 50m in a south westerly direction. 

Cleggs Lane

  • west side, from the north easterly kerbline of Manchester Road West north easterly for 102m
  • east side, from the north easterly kerbline of Manchester Road East north easterly for 106m.

An existing Order will be amended to be consistent with the proposals. A copy of the proposed Order, the Statement of Reasons, and a plan showing the proposals can be requested by emailing phlegal@manchester.gov.uk or examined in person at Swinton Gateway, 100 Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 6BP, Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. Salford City Council 
Proposed Conversion of Footway to Shared Use Cycle Track
Armitage Avenue, Manchester Road East, Manchester Road West and Cleggs Lane, Little Hulton and Walkden North

Salford City Council proposes to make improvements at four-arm junction connecting Cleggs Lane, Armitage Avenue, Manchester Road East and Manchester Road West. The proposals include the reallocation of road space to widen pavements and create shared use cycle facilities. This will be achieved through the removal of central refuge islands and the variation of the width of carriageways and footways in the area.

Therefore, notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Salford proposes to exercise its powers under section 65(1), 66(4) and 75(1) of the Highways Act 1980 to implement: 

Cycle Track for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists on:

Armitage Avenue

  • South east side, from the south westerly projected kerbline of Manchester Road East for 41m south westerly.
  • North west side, from the south westerly projected kerbline of Manchester Road West for 19m south westerly.
    Manchester Road West
  • North east side, from the north westerly projected kerbline of Cleggs Lane for 72m north westerly.
  • South west side, from the north westerly projected kerbline of Armitage Avenue for 57m north westerly.
    Manchester Road East
  • South west side, from the south easterly projected kerbline of Armitage Avenue for 31m south easterly.
  • North east side, from the south easterly projected kerbline of Cleggs Lane for 68m south easterly.
    Cleggs Lane
  • South east side, from the north easterly projected kerbline of Manchester Road East, for 80m north easterly.
  • North west side, from the north easterly projected kerbline of Manchester Road West, for 31m north easterly.
