Traffic regulation order: Chapel Street, Trinity Way, St Stephen Street and Ford Street

Salford City Council proposes to make the following Orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The titles and effects of the Orders will be as follows:

City of Salford (St Stephen Street at its junction with Chapel Street, Blackfriars and Trinity) (Prohibition of Motor Vehicles) Order 2026

City of Salford (Ford Street, Blackfriars and Trinity) (One Way Traffic) Order 2026

City of Salford (Ford Street, Blackfriars and Trinity) (20 Mph Speed Limit) Order 2026

City of Salford (Ford Street, Blackfriars and Trinity) (Prohibition of Waiting, Limited Waiting Parking Place, Disabled Persons Parking Place and Amendment / Revocation) Order 2026

The effect of the proposed Orders will be to introduce the following provisions:

Prohibition of Motor Vehicles (with exemption for e-scooters being used in the trial):

St Stephen Street

• From its junction with Chapel Street for a distance of 11.4 metres in a northerly direction.

One Way Traffic (with exemption for contraflow cyclists):

Ford Street

• From the junction with Chapel Street for a distance of 34.6 metres in a northerly direction – Permitted Direction of Travel – Northbound (towards Cleminson Street).

20mph Speed Limit:

Ford Street

• Full length (between its junctions with Chapel Street and Cleminson Street).

No Waiting At Any Time

Ford Street

• West side, from the northerly extended kerbline of Chapel Street to the southerly extended kerbline of Cleminson Street.
• East side, from the northerly extended kerbline of Chapel Street, for a distance of 45.9m in a northerly direction;
• East side, from the southerly extended kerbline of Cleminson Street, for a distance of 40m in a southerly direction

Limited Waiting Parking Place (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, Maximum Stay 30 minutes, No Return within 90 minutes)

Ford Street

• East side, from a point 52m south of the southerly extended kerbline of Cleminson Street, for a distance of 35.6m in a southerly direction.

Parking Place Reserved for Disabled Badge Holders (At All Times on All Days)

Ford Street

• East side, from a point 40m south of the southerly extended kerbline of Cleminson Street, for a distance of 12m in a southerly direction

Extension of Westbound Bus Lane on:

Chapel Street

• It is proposed to extend the westbound bus lane on Chapel Street by 94m, so that it will commence at a point 65.9m west of the projected western kerbline of Trinity Way, and will continue to a point 20m east of Islington Way.

Existing Orders will be amended so as to be consistent with the above proposals. 

A copy of the Orders, the plans and the statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the above Orders will be available for inspection at Swinton Gateway, 100 Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 6BP, Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. Zebra, Pelican and Puffin Pedestrian Crossings Regulations and General Direction 1997

Proposed Introduction of Toucan Crossing on Trinity Way, Blackfriars and Trinity

Notice is hereby given that Salford City Council intends to introduce a Toucan Pedestrian Crossing on Trinity Way (the proposal involves reestablishing the existing pedestrian crossing so that it is a straight / non-staggered crossing with a wider central reserve), which is described as follows:

Trinity Way

• the mid-point of the Toucan Crossing will be located 154.5 metres north-east of the northerly extended kerbline of Chapel Street, having a width of 4 metres and depth of 6.9 metres across the northbound carriageway; and 6.8 metres across the southbound carriageway. The zig-zag road markings will extend for a distance of 17.4 metres in a north-easterly and south-westerly direction on both sides of the carriageway.  

The scheme plan showing the location of the proposed Toucan Crossing and a statement of reasons for the proposal may be inspected at Swinton Gateway, 100 Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 6BP, Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm.

Proposed Introduction of Road Hump

Notice is hereby given that Salford City Council proposes to introduce:

Speed Cushions (twin set)

• 3.7 metres in length, 1.7 metres wide and with a maximum height of 75mm (+/- 15mm), with ramp gradients no steeper than 1 in 10 on;

Chapel Street (Westbound Carriageway) 

• the midpoint of the twin set of speed cushions will be located 30.3 metres west of the westerly extended kerbline of Trinity Way. (This is a ‘relocation’ from the current position). 

The scheme plan showing the location of the proposed speed cushions may be inspected at Swinton Gateway, 100 Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 6BP Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm.
