Traffic regulation order: Cromwell Road and London Street

Proposed Toucan Crossing, Cromwell Road, Pendleton and Charlestown

Notice is hereby given that Salford City Council proposes to introduce a signal-controlled Toucan Crossing under Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Toucan Crossing on A576 Cromwell Road

• Mid-point of the crossing located 23.7m north-east of the south-westerly extended kerbline of London Street. The crossing has a width of 4.6m and a depth of 10.2m across the carriageway. The controlled area of the crossing extends for 17.4m in a north easterly direction and 17.4m in a south-westerly direction.

The Council of the City of Salford proposed to make the following Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. 

City of Salford (London Street, Pendleton and Charlestown) (Prohibition of Waiting) Order 2026

The effect of the proposed Order will be to introduce the following provisions:

No Waiting At Any Time:

London Street: 

• north-east side, from the south-easterly extended kerbline of Cromwell Road for 46.3m in a south-easterly direction
• south-west side, from the south-westerly extended kerbline of Cromwell Road for 10m in a south-easterly direction.

A copy of the Orders, the plans and the statement of the council’s reasons for proposing to make the above Orders will be available for inspection at Swinton Gateway, 100 Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 6BP, Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. Alternatively, copies of the documentation may be requested via the email phlegal@manchester.gov.uk or the postal address below.

Salford City Council 
Proposed Conversion of Footway to Shared Use Cycle Track
London Street and Cromwell Road, Pendelton and Charlestown

Salford City Council proposes to convert lengths of footway to shared use Cycle Track so that pedestrians and cyclists can use the proposed Toucan Crossing to cross Cromwell Road near its junction with London Street.

Therefore, notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Salford proposes to exercise its powers under sections 65(1) and 66(4) of the Highways Act 1980 to implement: 

Cycle Track for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists on:

London Street

• North-East side, from its junction with Cromwell Road for 47.3m in a south-easterly then southerly direction with a width of 3.5m.

A576 Cromwell Road

• North-West side, from a point 2.2m north-east of the south-westerly extended kerbline of London Street for 31.8m in a north-easterly direction with a width of 3m.
• South-East side, from a point 12.1m north-east of the south-westerly extended kerbline of London Street for 23.1m in a north-easterly direction with a width of 3m.
