Blackfriars Park proposed refurbishment of the multi-use games area

Salford City Council is asking for your thoughts on the proposed refurbishment of the multi-use games area. You can give your views by completing the questionnaire below.

Questionnaire for refurbishment of the multi-use games area at Blackfriars Park

The deadline to complete the questionnaire is 12 June 2026.

The refurbished sports area will include facilities for football and basketball. Designed in line with Football Foundation recommendations the refurbished facility will occupy a slightly larger footprint within the park and make better use of the space available to the rear and side of the existing multi-use games area. A new, playing surface will be laid and the bitmac painted with hard court paint to ensure a non-slip finish. Permanent line markings will be applied with the colours selected to provide contrast and assist visually impaired users. With 4m high goal ends and 3m high side panels the number of balls straying into other areas of the park will be significantly reduced.

There will shortly be some more information about the history of the name of the park which is known by some people locally as:

  • The Diggle
  • Diggley
  • Diggly Park
  • Diggle Daggle Hill
