Mandley Park

Salford City Council is proposing a comprehensive refurbishment of the children's play area at Mandley Park, Higher Broughton. The existing play equipment and rubber safety surfacing will be removed and replaced with new equipment and an artificial grass safety surface within the existing fenced play area.

The design has been developed to create a safe, inclusive and engaging space that encourages children of all abilities to be physically active, develop social skills, build confidence and enjoy imaginative outdoor play. A range of accessible play opportunities are proposed, including inclusive multiplay equipment, wheelchair-accessible play features, inclusive roundabouts and a fully supported swing seat, ensuring that children with a variety of needs can participate in play alongside their peers.

The scheme also incorporates more challenging play elements, including climbing and swinging activities, to support physical development and provide opportunities for adventure and exploration. In addition, traditional play favourites such as swings and a see-saw have been retained within the design to provide a broad and balanced play offer.

Alongside the play area improvements, the Council is proposing a new basketball facility to expand the park’s recreational provision and create opportunities for older children and young people to take part in informal sport and physical activity.

The proposals aim to enhance the quality, accessibility and variety of recreational opportunities available at Mandley Park, creating a more inclusive and enjoyable destination for local families and the wider community.
