The Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations was adopted by full Council on 18 January 2023. It now forms part of the statutory development plan for Salford and replaces all of the saved policies of the Unitary Development Plan.
The Publication Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations plan was submitted to the Secretary of State for examination on 30 June 2021 and hearing sessions started on Tuesday 7 December 2021 and finished on Thursday 16 December 2021.
During the examination of the plan, the need for further Main and Additional modifications was identified. On 1 March 2022, the Planning Inspector confirmed that the examination of the plan could progress to consultation on the proposed modifications.
Post-submission modifications were published on 30 May 2022 and comments were invited on these until 11 July 2022. These comments were provided to the inspector for his consideration on 1 August 2022.
The planning inspector issued a Report to the city council on 3 November 2022; this sets out the findings of the examination of the plan. Main modifications have been recommended by him to make the submitted plan sound and legally compliant and capable of adoption. The inspector’s report (document reference ID016) and main modifications schedule (ID017) have been added to the examination library.
The inspector concludes that with the recommended main modifications set out in the Appendix to his Report, the Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations satisfies the requirements of Section 20(5)(a) of the 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act and meets the criteria for soundness in the National Planning Policy Framework. The current intention is that Adoption of the local plan will be considered at a meeting of Full Council on 18 January 2023.
