Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

For most sources of flooding, the Greater Manchester Strategic Flood Risk Assessment, which was completed in 2020 is a useful source of information and replaces earlier assessments. These maps are available to download from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority website, as part of the evidence base for Places for Everyone.

A Level 2/Hybrid Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) for the area covered by Manchester City Council, Salford City Council and Trafford Council was completed in 2010 / 2011.

The Level 2 / Hybrid SFRA document for Manchester, Salford and Trafford remains a useful source of information for flooding from some sources, particularly groundwater and canals. It defined the critical drainage areas as currently understood in Salford. These maps are available to download below.

Applicants are also encouraged to check the Flood Map for Planning and Long Term Flood Risk map on the GOV.UK site. These maps are updated as new information comes to light and are therefore potentially more useful than a static document.
