Route29 foster carers

Two people chatting on the sofa

Route29 is for our most vulnerable young people who are on the edge of care, in care, or at risk of a foster placement breakdown.

Instead of going into a children’s home, often in a different part of the country, the young person will come into the Route29 hub in Eccles. They’ll get the support they need from a team of professionals including clinical and educational psychologists, a specialist nurse, a speech and language therapist, keyworkers, a police officer and a PCSO.

The team work with the young person to help them with their issues for as long as necessary. There are bedrooms in the hub, so young people can stay overnight for respite if they really need to.

The building has been completely refurbished, and has a gym, living room, kitchen, communal areas, study and meeting areas, all chosen by young people who helped set up Route29.

The team are currently looking for foster carers to join them. You don’t need experience of being a foster carer, but it would help if you had experience with young people.

What does Route29 fostering involve?

Route29 hub foster carers are linked to the hub. They could choose to:

  1. Work as paid sessional workers in the Route29 hub in Eccles, getting to know young people and offering their valuable experience and knowledge.
  2. Foster a young person who has been in Route29 prior to them going back to live with their family or on to a long term foster placement. You would provide the home environment that some young people need as a stepping stone.
  3. Offer respite or support to general foster carers where the placement is at risk of breaking down.
