Part two: Salford Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations

The Salford Draft Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations document has been published for consultation. The closing date for making comments is Monday 17 February 2025. For more information please our consultation portal.

Work has started on the Salford Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations (part two of our Local Plan). Having regard to other documents that form part of the adopted development plan for Salford, the scope of the this plan is limited to:

  • A long term vision and spatial strategy for the city up to 2042
  • Identifying boundaries for spatial areas in Salford identified in Places for Everyone such as the Core Growth Area, Inner Area and Northern Area
  • Policies for areas of the city, including neighbourhoods
  • The distribution of new housing and employment floorspace 
  • Visions for the different neighbourhood areas in the city
  • Allocations for development
  • Local Green Space designations. All other types of protective designation were considered through part one of the plan.

Progress made in producing this plan

We undertook an initial consultation on part two of our Local Plan between 13 December 2023 and 24 January 2024. View details of this consultation and the responses received to it.

We are currently consulting on the Salford Draft Local Plan: Core Strategy and Allocations document. The closing date for making comments is 4.30pm on Monday 17 February 2025. For more information please visit our consultation portal

What happens next

Following the end of the consultation period, all comments will be considered and an updated version of the plan will be published (the ‘Publication’ version) for further consultation. Timescales for this, and the remaining stages in the preparation of the plan are:  

  • Autumn 2025: Publication consultation (regulation 19)
  • Winter 2025 to Summer 2026: Submission to Secretary of State and examination in public
  • Autumn 2026: Adoption
