Move More Salford

The Move More Salford campaign aims to inspire the people of Salford to live healthy, happier, and thrive.

Move More Salford

Why is moving more so important?

Imagine today's young people feeling inspired to lead active lives every day.

Imagine our communities feeling connected, resilient, and empowered with equal opportunities to start, live, and age well.

The problem is that while we are all designed to move, our modern world is created and organised to keep us sitting still.

Did you know 32% of adults in Salford do less than 30 minutes of weekly activity? And more worrying, it is 45% for children and young people.

And it is the groups with existing activity gaps have seen the most significant decline and widening inequalities.

But we are on a mission to change that.

What is Move More Salford?

Salford's Move More campaign aims to inspire movement back into people's everyday lives. Because when we move more, it contributes to our physical and mental wellbeing.

Over the next five years, we are on a mission to empower the people of our city to live happier and healthier. We want our communities, places, and economy to thrive, so we all get to contribute to this vibrant and growing city.

From our parks, leisure facilities, community groups, health and wellbeing sessions, trails, and loop lines, Salford offers 100s ways to walk, wheel, dance, and run your way to better health and mental wellbeing.

A growing and diverse population

Salford is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, with a population of over 270,000 people. Over the last ten years, the city has invested over £5 million improving our green spaces, upgrading transport links, and connecting our local towns to make commuting by walking and cycling easier. Between the council's own Health Improvement Teams, Salford Community Leisure Active Lives, and Physical activity and wellbeing partners, there is so much on offer.

The Move More Salford campaign supports the Physical Activity Framework for 2023 to 27, aligned to Salford's Great Eight and Locality Plan. The framework is a joint commitment and collaboration of the Salford Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA), GM (Greater Manchester) groups, and the council to increase engagement and participation in physical wellbeing and help reduce health inequalities in the city.
