Apply for a postal vote

Banner - Plan today so you can vote in May, vote from home by post in Salford's local elections - May 2024

How can I vote by post?

You can now apply for a postal vote online if you are able to upload a picture/image of your handwritten signature.

To vote in the May elections, the deadline to apply for a postal vote is Wednesday 17 April 2024.

As this deadline has now passed you can no longer apply for a postal vote in the May elections. If you know you can’t attend a polling station to vote on Thursday 2 May you can appoint someone to vote on your behalf by setting up a proxy vote.

By law we need your signature to allow a postal vote, so that this can be compared with your signed postal voting statement at and election.
This must be your handwritten signature, please do not use a mouse or touch screen device to sign.

If you are unable to provide a consistent signature, please indicate this on the form and provide us with a reason why, and the name/address of anybody who has helped you complete the form.

Postal vote applications will now also need to include your national insurance number.

To set up a postal vote you need to first be registered to vote. If you are not registered or you are not sure if you are, you can register online on the GOV.UK website. Alternatively, you can call our contact centre on 0161 793 2500 and they can tell you if you are registered and advise further.

When you are registered for postal voting, this means that any ballot papers for the elections will be sent to you via the postal service a couple of weeks before election day and you return them the same way in a pre-paid envelope included with your postal pack.

If you forget to send your postal vote back in time, you can hand deliver it to any polling station in Salford before 10pm on polling day.

If you haven’t received your postal pack ten days before the election, please contact our customer contact centre on 0161 793 2500 during office hours.
