Free events during Carers Week 2023 (5 to 11 June)

People who look after a family member, loved one, friend, or neighbour in Salford are being invited to free, fun, creative, relaxing and educational activities to celebrate their dedication.

Salford City Council is supporting Gaddum Salford Carers Centre with their week of events to highlight the amazing work carers in the city do, and to encourage them to seek support.

A carer is anyone (adult or child) who looks after someone (unwaged) due to their illness, disability, or substance misuse who can’t cope without their support.

Carers Week (5 to 11 June) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to communities and society throughout the UK.

It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. Carers Week is led by Carers UK with the support of a number of other charities.

Councillor John Merry, Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “We hope carers in Salford can to join in all the free activities that will be celebrating and supporting them during Carers Week.

"Unpaid carers make a huge contribution to families and communities. They do fantastic work and we want to encourage them to take up the help and support that’s available. One of the ways they can access this support is to fill in a carers assessment form. They can then have help to get a break, find advice and support from other carers and much more.”

The free events during Carers Week range from photography to creative writing, meeting other carers and sharing top tips, to learning about carers' discounts, benefits and more.
