Births, marriages and deaths

The council is responsible for the registration of births, marriages and deaths, and the issuing of birth, marriage and death certificates, for the Salford registration district. 

We also conduct civil marriage ceremonies, including civil partnerships and marriages in licensed premises. Registration appointments for Salford residents are now available each Wednesday at Broughton Hub.

Salford Register Office is currently based at The Town Hall in Swinton, but will shortly be moving into Buile Hill Mansion, Buile Hill Park. Full details are below. 

Registering a death

The Town Hall (Swinton) office will continue to register deaths until Friday 13 March and then begin at Buile Hill Mansion from Wednesday 18 March. GPs, coroners, medical examiners and funeral directors can contact the register office at registeroffice@salford.gov.uk for any urgent enquiries. 

Registering a birth

Births can be registered at The Town Hall (Swinton) office up to and including Friday 6 March. We will start birth registrations at Buile Hill Mansion from Monday 30 March. If you would like an appointment while our service is closed, you can go to Manchester Register Office if your baby was born in the city of Manchester or Bolton Register Office if your baby was born in Bolton.

Notices of Marriage

You can give your Notice of Marriage at The Town Hall (Swinton) office up to and including Friday 6 March. Notices of Marriage will begin at Buile Hill Mansion from Monday 30 March. If you have an urgent enquiry, please call 0161 793 2500 or email marriages@salford.gov.uk  

Copy certificates

You can request copies of certificates at The Town Hall (Swinton) office up to and including Friday 27 February for the standard 15 day service. For priority certificate applications same day service you can order up to and including Thursday 5 March. We will start issuing copies of certificates at Buile Hill Mansion from Monday 30 March. You can also order certificates directly from the General Register Office.

Ceremonies

If you have booked a ceremony at Buile Hill Mansion, we will continue to liaise with you to ensure your ceremony proceeds with professionalism and care. For ceremonies taking place in religious buildings where your documentation needs to be collected or returned please email marriages@salford.gov.uk to arrange a suitable collection/drop off time as we will ensure your ceremony can proceed and/or be registered. 

Citizenship ceremonies will now take place at Buile Hill Mansion and applicants will be contacted as to when you can book your ceremony at the Mansion.
