Dyslexia Webinars

This collection of recorded webinars will support staff in understanding what dyslexia is, provide some practical classroom strategies to support young people to access lessons focussing on enabling learning environments and personalised learning, explore how the ‘Literacy Pack’ can be used to support assessment; as well as highlighting possible interventions.  

All sessions are delivered in segments and can be accessed at any time. Some sessions have pre-reading tasks to support completion.

DAC (Dyslexia Aware Consortium) Quality Mark Accreditation Process 2025-2027

Session content: 

The Dyslexia Aware Consortium Quality Mark is a large group of Local Authorities in the Northwest of England which offers schools the opportunity to work towards the Dyslexia Aware Quality Mark (DACQM). This Quality Mark recognises excellent inclusive practice in meeting the needs of Dyslexic students in the classroom.

What will this accreditation look like for my school?

• Bespoke SpLD dyslexia training for all staff

• Support from qualified SpLD dyslexia teachers to work towards standards

• Regular personalised meetings around evidence gathering and developing best practice

• Tailored process that meets the needs of your school

Benefits of being a Dyslexia aware schools:

• Access to whole school training

• Increased staff knowledge and awareness of dyslexia

• Increased pupil engagement

• Links in with Code of Practice expectations

• Increased inclusive practice

• Increased independence for all pupils

• Increased confidence for staff teaching pupils with dyslexia

• Dyslexia and Dyscalculia assessments reduced to £50 per assessment once the first unit has been successfully completed.

Down Syndrome and Complex Needs

• An introduction to Down Syndrome

• Supporting pupils with Down Syndrome in the primary setting – Maths

• Supporting pupils with Down Syndrome in the primary setting – Literacy

• Supporting pupils with Down Syndrome in the Secondary setting (bespoke to school)

• Supporting pupils with complex and severe needs in the primary setting – a practical approach

Venue:

Training can be delivered to individuals, groups or whole school and can be face-to-face or via Microsoft Teams.

• How to implement Colourful Semantics in the learning environment – a practical approach (SALT Colourful Semantics training must have been completed prior to this)

• MLD – identification and support

• Multi-sensory approaches to teaching

• Identifying and supporting memory difficulties

• Improving literacy through phonological and phonemic awareness

• Strategies to support memory in the classroom
