Behaviour and the Relational Approach

Session content:

This session is aimed at school staff as an introduction to the Relational Approach. It encourages staff to view all behaviour as a form of communication, and how it may relate to unmet need in the 4 areas of SEND, briefly touching on trauma and attachment.

The session offers some strategies that can be put in place using a whole school relational approach to behaviour, giving suggestions for recording and monitoring and signposts where to go for advice or more information.

Reducing Barriers to School Attendance (EBSA)

Delivered by:

Session content:

This training is jointly delivered by the EPS and School Attendance Team. It will develop your understanding of preventative approaches to support attendance and school belonging, early identification and intervention approaches and how to support young people who may be experiencing extended non-attendance.

All of our training is open to all, but for it to be maximally impactful it will be helpful if a member of staff who can cascade learning and lead change within your school attends (e.g. SENCO, Attendance Lead, Pastoral Lead, SLT). Teachers or teaching assistants may attend, if they have support to embed learning from the training within the school.

Positive Behaviour Support

Delivered by:

Springwood Primary School 

Session content:

This course looks at behaviour from a Positive Behaviour Support point of view. 
The content of the sessions covers the following themes:

  • Challenging behaviour
  • Values
  • Behaviour management and behaviour support
  • The assault cycle and staff well being
  • Functional assessment and the use of data
  • Hypotheses and proactive planning
  • Quality of life and incident reduction
  • Reactive strategies and restrictive intervention
  • Restrictive practice

Target audience

The content of the course is aimed at those who work with children with SEND and would be relevant to both mainstream colleagues and also those from special educational settings. 

The course will run over three sessions and can be completed in either the autumn, spring or summer terms.

Terms and conditions

Cancellations: We reserve the right to cancel or alter dates of any courses. If a course is cancelled by us then delegates will be moved on to the next available course or a full refund will be offered. If a course is cancelled by the participant, the following will be applied: 

  • A course cancelled 28 days prior to the course date will be fully refunded. 
  • A course cancelled between 7 and 27 days will be charged at 25% 
  • Any course cancelled less than 7 days before the due date will be charged at full price. 
  • Any non-attendance without prior warning will be charged at full price.

Parking: Parking on site is limited. Please be respectful of our neighbours when parking on the surrounding roads. 

Lunch time and refreshments: Lunch will not be provided by the venue, therefore please bring a packed lunch. 

Please note, we do not allow the following products on our school site due to pupil allergies. 

  • Nuts of any type including tree nuts. 
  • Kiwi fruit 
  • Shellfish Refreshments will be provided as appropriate.

Anxiety and Low Mood

Session content:

The session will cover what we mean by ‘anxiety’ and ‘low mood’ , how they can present and ways in which we can support children and young people experiencing them. We will also consider the difficulties school staff can face when working with those experiencing anxiety or low mood and how the wellbeing of staff is supported during this work. The session will also involve a number of activities and discussions to share best practice and strategies.

Right to Play

Session content:

All children have the right to play. Play looks differently at all ages and includes a range of themes, such as spontaneous, voluntary, unpredictable and enjoyment. This training will look at the intrinsic benefits of play and some common barriers for all children. We will consider some opportunities to support access to play, alongside time for reflection.

Bereavement and Loss

Session content:

This training session will look at the context and prevalence of bereavement and loss, how bereavement can impact children and young people, and the kind of behaviours you might see as a result. There will be an overview of theoretical models of loss and bereavement, and thinking about children’s developmental understanding in relation to this. This training will look at how we can support children and young people who have experienced loss.
