Salford Quays Public Spaces Protection Order

On 24 July 2019, the council made a Public Spaces Protection Order 2019, under sections 59 and 64 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, to prohibit the occurrence and recurrence of the specified criminal and anti-social activities in the restricted area while the order is in force.

The restricted area

This order relates to that part of Salford Quays as shown edged red ('the restricted area') on the plan/map which is attached to the order.

Prohibited activities

  1. Jumping from, climbing upon or hanging from any bridge to which this Order applies or aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring such an act etc.
  1. Except in case of emergency, removing, displacing or otherwise interfering with any life saving equipment
  1. Depositing or throwing into or onto the water, any animal or any large object unrelated to water activities, including wheelie bins.
  1. Unauthorised swimming

Contravention

Failure to comply with the order may result in the issuing of a fixed penalty notice of up to £100 or criminal prosecution, and on conviction a fine of up to £1,000.

Proposed extension

Salford City Council is currently reviewing if it is appropriate to extend the current order when it expires in July 2022. The consultation ended on 17 January 2022. The results from the consultation are currently under review.
