College open events

The colleges will aim to do these events onsite where possible, but you may need to book a place online. Please always check college websites before any event for booking details and for any event changes.

Information for colleges and sixth form open events

Open events are really important to attend (either onsite or virtual) if you are thinking of doing further studies after your GCSEs. It is your chance to research different places and courses and find out what options are best for you.

Even if you are not thinking of this pathway (for example if you want to do an apprenticeship instead) it is still important to consider researching colleges or sixth form as a backup plan; so still try and visit a few places!

  • Before you attend an open event, it is a good idea to do some research first – check on the college or sixth form website to see if they offer the courses you are interested in – this can also help explore different options if you are not sure what courses you want to do yet
  • You can attend as many open events as you like – in fact, it is a good idea to attend at least two or three different places so you can make a fair comparison
  • If attending on ‘onsite’ college open event, you can bring family members – however please check college websites in case there are any restrictions in place
  • Make sure you ask lots of questions – for example you might have questions about different courses, about the entry requirements (what GCSE grades you might need) or questions on careers or university. Don’t be afraid to ask at the colleges – they will be happy to help!
  • There is no commitment to apply to a college or sixth form at an open event (application deadlines are typically around Christmas time and you can request support for this from your school)
