Book an online appointment for vehicle tests

You can now book and pay for all vehicle test appointments. You can access this system at your convenience, 24 hours a day to book and pay for compliance tests and private MOTs. Please read the following information.

What has changed for taxi drivers?

You still apply for your vehicle renewal with licensing using the existing online form, but from Monday 6 January 2020, your fees will change.

You will pay a fee of £73 for private hire vehicles or £147 for Hackney carriage vehicles to the licensing section. You will then pay all test fees to Vehicle Management Services (VMS) directly through the book and pay system.

There is no fee increase.

When your renewal is approved by the licensing team, you will still receive a confirmation email to progress to your test. At this point, instead of calling VMS reception to book in, you will be able to access the system online to book and pay for your test slot.

How the online appointment system works

To book and pay for a test slot, you will need to register for an account. Some of you will already have access to the system for other appointment types we offer.

If you already have access, when you log in, you will simply have more options available to you.

If you don't have access yet you will need to register for an account and create a username and password. It is important that you remember this user name and password, as you will use this every time you want to book an appointment at VMS.

Once you are logged in to the book and pay system, you will choose the type of test you require, choose a convenient date and time, answer some questions about the vehicle you want to book in and pay the required fee. You will receive a confirmation email along with a payment receipt.
