Importing or exporting foods

When you import food commercially, you need to know about regulations that apply to specific products and also more general rules about things such as labelling and additives.

Failure to comply with UK and EU hygiene and safety rules could cause delay in shipments, increase costs and require action to be taken by enforcement authorities.Full details are available on the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) website.

If you want to bring food into the country just for your personal use, see the Personal food, plant and animal product imports on GOV.UK.

Local authority export certificates

We can provide a Premises Endorsement for Export Certificate.

Premises Endorsement for Export (PEE) certificate

Premises Endorsement for Export (PEE) certificates state that your premises is registered with a local authority and is subject to regular and periodic inspections. They make no reference to the goods being sent. Goods are never inspected prior to issuing the certificate.

If you wish to apply for a PEE certificate, you should apply for it before your export has left the Salford area.

PEE certificates are not accepted by all countries, import agents or customers. You should check with your customer, your import agent in the destination country or export agent in the UK before applying.
