Draft Local Plan (2016-17)

Consultation on the Draft Local Plan took place between November 2016 and January 2017.

The Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations was adopted by full Council on 18 January 2023. It now forms part of the statutory development plan for Salford and replaces all of the saved policies of the Unitary Development Plan.

The Draft Local Plan identified the proposed approach of the city council having regard to the comments received during the initial stages of consultation. The Draft Local Plan was accompanied by a draft policies map which showed the location of the sites proposed to be allocated for development or given a protective designation.

At the same time the Draft Local Plan was published, the city council updated its evidence base to include:

  • a new housing and economic land availability assessment covering 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2035 (November 2016)
  • an assessment of residential viability (November 2016)
  • town and neighbourhood centre review
