Sustainability appraisal scoping report (2013)

The Salford Local Plan: Development Management Policies and Designations was adopted by full Council on 18 January 2023. It now forms part of the statutory development plan for Salford and replaces all of the saved policies of the Unitary Development Plan.

Under section 19(5) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, the local plan must be subject to a sustainability appraisal (SA) throughout its production, ensuring that it is fully consistent with and helps to implement the principles of sustainable development.

An initial draft SA scoping report was published for public consultation for a nine week period between 8 February and 12 April 2013. The SA scoping report was subsequently revised and updated, having regard to the comments received. The revised SA report also included the city council's formal determination that the SA will incorporate a strategic environmental assessment in accordance with the requirements of European Directive 2001/42/EC.
