We know moving more can mean different things to different people. Whether you are looking for a secure space, friendly space or welcoming space, you can find it here in Salford. Once you know where to find them you can get on your way to moving more!

Finding your space

Making sure it’s the right space for you is important and will help to keep you motivated. Just 30 minutes of activity for adults and 60 minutes for kids every day is all you need. You can build this into your day to benefit your health and wellbeing. Being active will result in health gains such as improved mental health, reduced stress, weight control and heart health.

Move more at home

Moving more at home means you can get active from the comfort of your own space. Have it become part of your daily routine and start to enjoy moving in spaces you know and feel confident in.

These simple steps can help you get started:

  1. Think of simple daily tasks around the home which could help you move more. Give some extra energy into hoovering or dusting around the house.
  2. Why not make it fun! Hear a good tune on the radio? While you’re singing along, dance like nobody's watching and get moving!
  3. Search the NHS YouTube channel for home workouts, home yoga exercises or maybe just some simple stretches to start things off.
  4. Download any one of the many health and wellbeing apps via your smart phone, including NHS Better Health Apps such as Couch to 5k or Active 10 to stay motivated.

Move more with friends

If you’re with a friend or a family member, you can help to encourage each other and stay on track. Why not be more active and social at the same time.

You can start with these simple steps:

  1. Find a buddy who wants to start moving more too, you’ll be surprised how quick the times goes when you are chatting!
  2. Add being active into your daily and weekly routines, make sure it works for you both.
  3. Connecting with other people is good for our mental health. Why not try something new such as visiting an art gallery, or one of the many parks and green spaces in Eccles.
  4. Check out our Move More Salford video for inspiration or get in touch with one of our activity partners to see what Eccles has to offer.

Move more in a group

Why not join a welcoming space that encourages you to get moving on a regular basis. You can make new friends whilst doing something you enjoy, and there are lots of welcoming groups already in Salford.

Here are some steps to help you find that welcoming space:

  1. There are walking and cycling groups to suit everyone, whether you want to discover something new or pick up an old activity.
  2. Many of our local physical activity partners can help you find the right activity which matches your experience, ability and needs.
  3. While joining a new group may feel scary most groups offer activity or walking champions to provide emotional wellbeing support. And remember everyone is there to be a part of a like-minded group and welcoming space.
