Election of City Mayor - Notice of election

Election

An Election is to be held of a City Mayor for the City of Salford.

Nomination Papers

  1. Nomination Papers may be obtained from the Returning Officer at Elections Office, Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 5DA (on any day after the date of this notice, but not later than 4pm on Friday 5 April 2024) who will, at the request of any elector for the City of Salford, prepare a nomination paper for signature.

Delivery of Nomination Papers

  1. Completed Nomination Papers and the prescribed deposit of £500.00 must be delivered to the Returning Officer at Elections Office, Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 5DA on any day after the date of this notice, but not later than 4pm on Friday 5 April 2024. The deposit must be made by legal tender, credit/debit card, electronic transfer or bankers draft.

Poll

  1. If the election is contested, the poll will take place on Thursday 2 May 2024.

Registering to vote

  1. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 16 April 2024. Applications may be sent directly via the online voter registration service.
  2. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton by 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024.
    Applications may be sent directly via the online postal vote service.
  3. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Voter ID certificate/document applications can be made online.
  4. Applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Applications may be sent directly via the online proxy vote service.
  5. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton by 5pm on Thursday 2 May 2024.

The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.
