Elections resources to help spread the word

Welcome to our online resource pack to help us share important information about upcoming elections with as many residents as possible. On Thursday 2 May, there are three elections in Salford - local councillors, Salford City Mayor and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Mayor.

With the government introducing voter ID at polling stations last year, we want to ensure all electors are aware of these changes and able to still vote come May. Some residents are less likely to have the required forms of photo ID and may need support to access the government portal to apply for the free Voter Authority Certificates. Please do encourage people to go into their local gateway centre if they need assistance – more details in the newsletter copy.

Plan today so you can vote in May

Salford residents can shape the city’s future by choosing who represents them and their community by voting in three elections - Salford City Mayor, local councillors and Greater Manchester Combined Authority Mayor –. Make sure you have your say on Thursday 2 May. Visit www.salford.gov.uk/mayelections to find out more.

First you must be registered to vote which only takes a few minutes and your national insurance number. If you’re not going to be around on polling day you can apply for a postal vote or a proxy vote, which is when you ask someone you trust to cast your vote for you.

To vote in a polling station, you must show an acceptable form of photo ID and if you don’t have one, apply online by Wednesday 24 April for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC).

If you need help accessing the government portal for a VAC, please pop into your local gateway centre, a one stop shop for a wide range of council and community services.
