Proxy vote

How do I appoint someone to vote on my behalf?

Asking someone to cast your vote on your behalf is called a proxy vote. If you are unable to use postal voting or get to a polling station you can nominate someone you trust (a proxy) to cast your vote for you at a particular election.

By law we need a signed application form to allow a proxy vote.

You can email us at elections@salford.gov.uk or call 0161 793 2500 with your name and full address, including postcode and we can post a form to you.

Or, you can download and print the proxy vote application form below, complete it fully, sign it and return it to us. Details of how to do this are below.

How do I appoint an emergency proxy to vote on my behalf?

If an emergency has arisen and you will be unable to cast your vote on polling day you can apply for an emergency proxy vote by completing and returning to us the appropriate emergency proxy vote form.

The emergency must be something that you weren’t aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline. Please use the Electoral Commission’s PDF form below which reflects your circumstances:

The deadline for an emergency proxy vote for the local elections is 5pm on Thursday 4 May 2023.

This is only for a genuine emergency. For example, something that you weren't aware of before the normal proxy vote application deadline, such as having to self-isolate.

By law we need a signed application form to allow an emergency proxy vote.

If there is time, we can post a form to you. You can email us at elections@salford.gov.uk or call 0161 793 2500 with your name and full address, including postcode.
