HAPPI - Salford's healthy families programme

Make healthier lifestyle choices for you and your family

Welcome to HAPPI – Salford's Healthy Families Programme, designed to help families approach weight management in a positive and inspired way.

Did you know a diet high in fat and sugar is behind many serious illnesses such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. It’s also responsible for an increasing proportion of ill health and increasing rates of obesity.

That's why we're here to help families make small but purposeful changes to their health and lifestyle to support living by our HAPPI moto:

Healthy, Active, Positive, Purposeful, and Inspired.

What is Salford's HAPPI programme?

HAPPI is a *FREE* personalised step-by-step online family wellness programme that shows families creative ways to eat healthier, flexible ways to be more active and positive ways to promote better health and wellbeing for the whole family.

After listening to feedback from Red Pepper, we have re-designed the course to encourage non-restrictive eating patterns, body acceptance, and overall positive health rather than weight loss.

Whether you're a parent who feels anxious or worried about the food that your child eats or a caregiver looking for positive ways to deal with a fussy eater, our HAPPI programme will give you support with:

  • Mindful eating and upstanding hunger and fullness
  • How to be a good role model
  • Reducing the stress of mealtimes
  • Managing media and weight stigma
  • How to make small, sustainable changes to your family's health

Feel inspired to create a healthier and HAPPI-er lifestyle for the whole family.

How does Salford's HAPPI programme work?

Our 10-week weight management programme shows families and their children how to take a whole lifestyle and holistic approach to eating well, moving more, and feeling positive about how to live healthy and HAPPI.

During the programme families get:

Personalised and private enrolment
A private1-2-1 discovery call to learn more about you and your family's health and wellness goals.

10 easy-to-digest online videos
Get access to a series of short weekly animated videos with simple healthy eating and wellbeing tips. With easy to action tasks at the end of each video.

1 to 1 coaching from your Live HAPPI coach
You’ll also get access to weekly coaching telephone calls to reflect on your progress, work together with your coach to problem-solve any challenges, and set goals for the coming week.

HAPPI gives parents the knowledge, skills, and, most importantly, the confidence to make small but significant changes to their family's health and wellbeing. There are no set rules; you can adapt the suggestions to fit your family's lifestyle. We'll be there for you every step of the way, giving you the power to take control of your family's health.

Need ideas to get active? No problem, we’ll give you information and resources about accessing many of Salford's green spaces, cycling and walking routes, physical activities, creative health services, and further support.

Salford City Council's Health Improvement Team delivers the programme with the support of local health and wellbeing professionals.

Still, have some questions?

Check if you are eligible for Weight Management Support

The HAPPI healthy families programme is for parent/s or carers of primary school-aged children between the ages of 4 to 11 years old and need extra support to eat healthier, be more active and promote better health and wellbeing for the whole family.

HAPPI provision for specialist and complex SEND

If you or your child needs specialist and complex SEND support to attend the HAPPI programme, please search these providers first:

  • Springwood Primary School (your child must attend one of the Springwood schools)
  • Endorphins
  • You Can

Many providers in Salford are eager to support a limited number of children with specialist and complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

If you book with a provider other than the three mentioned above, we encourage you to share your child's specific support needs when making your referral. Your HAPPI coach will assess how they can best accommodate the programme to ensure a positive family experience for everyone, including children with disabilities or neurodiversity.
