Diversity events

Salford EMTAS promotes a variety of diversity events in primary and secondary schools throughout the year to raise awareness of the rich heritage and cultures that exist in the city.

Learning about differences, identifying commonalities and gaining a better understanding of all communities promotes a more cohesive and tolerant society. Events supported by EMTAS include:

  • Holocaust Memorial Day in January
  • Refugee Week in June
  • Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month in June
  • Windrush Day on 22 June (an educational pack for schools can be downloaded below)
  • Black History Month in October
  • Chinese New Year (January/February)

Projects have included music, drama and story writing workshops, displays in local libraries, community events and presentations and performances by local community members.

EMTAS works in partnership with a number of other organisations such as the University of Manchester, Refugee Action, City of Sanctuary UK and Music Action International as well as many others.

To find out more about these diversity events and if you would like your school or setting to take part please contact EMTAS on emtas@salford.gov.uk.
