Keep protected with seasonal vaccinations

Seasonal vaccinations are offered throughout the year to groups of vulnerable people at the highest risk of becoming very unwell, hospitalised and in some cases death.

Seasonal vaccinations are offered annually and currently include flu and COVID. The vaccines are offered every year as the strains of flu and COVID commonly change, and the vaccine doesn’t offer lifelong protection. The vaccine is adapted annually to ensure we get the most protection before it spreads in the community during winter. You can still get the flu or COVID-19 after being vaccinated; however, your symptoms will be milder.

This year, the RSV vaccination has been added to the immunisation schedule for pregnant women and older people. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common virus that primarily affects the respiratory tract, causing mild cold-like symptoms in most people, but can lead to severe illness in infants and the elderly.

If you're eligible for a free flu vaccine, you can book an appointment at your GP surgery or a pharmacy on the NHS (National Health Service). You may also receive an invitation to get vaccinated, but you do not have to wait for this before booking an appointment. Please get in touch with your GP practice or pharmacy for more information.
