How do you apply for help from Salford Assist?

Applying is easy. Please contact the team on 0800 694 3695 or complete an online application form if you meet some simple criteria. You will need to:

  • have a six month local connection with Salford
  • show you don't have access to sufficient income or savings or receive a qualifying means tested benefit
  • be prepared to apply for support from other agencies where appropriate

It’s really important to include the following when submitting an application form:

  • proof of photo identification or two forms of original proof of address with your full name and address on it
  • a recent bank statement (from the last four to six weeks)
  • a copy of any entitlement/delays to benefits letters
  • a signed copy of the declaration form and sharing agreement / privacy notice

  • Due to a significant increase in applications the helpline (0800 694 3695) times have been temporarily changed to 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday, to enable staff to assess applications as quickly as possible.

Council Tax Support

If you are liable to pay council tax in the Salford City Council area you may be able to get temporary help with your council tax in accordance with the terms of Section 13A of the Local Government Finance Act 1992.

Please note that various information is required to complete the application such as your current energy supplier, a recent bank statement showing the last four to six weeks of transactions up to the application date and a copy of your last Universal Credit Statement (where applicable).

The application also covers questions related to personal demographics to help us ensure that all communities in Salford are supported.

You can also visit your local gateway centre or Broughton Hub if you need support with the application and staff will be able to help. Find your nearest centre and the opening hours.
