Do you work with people who are trying to become self employed?

Public call for evidence about self employment

Salford Skills and Work Board are working with partners in Salford to try to address the gap in self employment support for residents with significant barriers to work.

About the issue

Salford has a low self-employment rate and existing programmes disincentivise providers from working with individuals who have more complex needs.

What we need

Do you work with individuals with significant barriers to work or with the self-employed?

If so we are looking for additional data, evidence and research to help us provide better support to people who may want to become self-employed.

For example, can you share with us some of the barriers that your clients face?

Do you have data on which industries the self-employed people you work with have chosen to set-up in? Can you share that alongside data on length of trading?

How to get in touch

Any work you have done or data that you have collected will help us so please do contact chantelle.bowen@salford.gov.uk if you would like to discuss further.

You can submit research papers, data files in any format, video, audio or links via email to chantelle.bowen@salford.gov.uk or call 07773 116 933 to discuss further.

When is the deadline?

Deadline for submissions 18 May 2025.
