Manchester City Council has introduced a bus gate on the A34 Bridge Street for vehicles heading into Salford.

The camera-monitored section runs westbound only from just west of Left Bank to the Albert Bridge and became operational on Wednesday 28 December 2022.

It is open to buses, black cabs and pedal cycles at all times (24 hours a day) but means the road is now closed to other drivers.

Drivers who use a bus gate or enter a bus lane can be ‘fined’ £60 (fixed penalty charge notice or PCN) which will be reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.

Buses are defined as motor vehicles built or adapted to carry a minimum of nine passengers (not including the driver).
