The enforcement zone, monitored by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, applies to westbound vehicles only, beginning just beyond Left Bank and continuing to the Albert Bridge. This restriction came into force on Wednesday, 28 December 2022.
The bus gate remains operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Access is restricted to buses, black cabs, and pedal cycles. All other motor vehicles are prohibited from entering this section of the road.
Unauthorised vehicles that enter the bus gate may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) of £60, reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.
For enforcement purposes, a ‘bus’ is defined as a motor vehicle constructed or adapted to carry nine or more passengers, not including the driver.
